For nature, your Dobermans is stubborn so it’s really really important that he understand the meaning of the “Stop” command. Trust me a Doberman that doesn’t know the Stop command is a Dog that can ask the same thing for hours… no matter if he gets no results, he will try over and over and over…because for him there’s still a “last chance”…
For example if he want something out of your gate, he will try to go out to take it… no matter if he can’t.. he will continuously try to find a way to do that.
As you can understand, the stop is really one of the most important command in a good Doberman Training.

The Doberman Training secret to teach him the Stop command is pretty simple… you must let him understand that in some case (when you say “Stop”) it’s useless for him keep trying because even if he go on, he will NEVER get it.
To train him, you can use the following Doberman Training exercise:

  • Get some Dog Treats
  • Give him an easy command that he already understand (like “Sit”) and give him a treat
  • Give him other treats to let him want more
  • Take a treat for each hand and close them, when you understand that he wants more open an hand and let him get another treat
  • Wait that he eats… he will surely sense the treat in the closed hand and ask for more, open your hand and give him the other one
  • Close both hands (now empty)
  • He will ask for more, when he do, open one hand.. he will be shocked looking that it’s empty
  • He will ask for more looking and sniffing the other hand, open it, he will be shocked again
  • Now say “Stop” (not as an order, as a tip) and let him lick your hands
  • If he continue to ask say “Stop” again and stop taking care of him
  • The goal is to let him understand that the fact that treats are finished does not depend by you or by him, they’re finished no one can do anything.

Repeat this Doberman Training exercise for some days until you see that when you say stop, he understand that it’s useless go on and remember, after the “Stop”, do not take care of him anymore.

I hope that you enjoy this exercise. If you need a more complete and detailed Doberman Training i strongly recommend this one.
It works very well with any kind of dog breeds and the material offered is comprehensive, detailed yet easy to understand, and highly effective.

Bye
